As the Mercury Plunges...

Well the temperature according to the London paper was "Bitterly Cold" yesterday. We, having limited time and a surplus of curiosity, decided to trek the length of the city by foot ensuring we didn't miss a thing. It was an excellent plan. We began at the Parliament building as that is a lovely place to invigorate ones tourist juices. From there we walked up Westminster Blvd to 10 Downing street where we popped in and had a cup o' tea with old Gordon Brown. Not really but it would have made for a good story. We then walked through St. James park and along the Mall; this walk culminating at the gates of Buckingham Palace. We weren't too impressed; it was really just another house. Just kidding. For a country that is too "bitterly cold" to do outdoor activities most of the year, they sure do have a lot of parks. We found another and walked, this time through Hyde Park, all the way to Notting Hill gate. I'd wager that the average temperature (with wind chill) throughout this entire time was about 20-25 degrees Fahrenheit. Mmm, toasty. Being London and being Saturday evening, the shops had all begun closing up by the time we arrived in Notting Hill. We missed Portabelo Market. Freezing our Southern Californian arses off, we ducked into a tea shoppe for some liquid warmth and rejuvenation.

At about 7:00pm we hopped on the tube back to our flat. We spent the evening watching the weekends football highlights on the telly. Apparently it's like church for football fans. This show must not be missed or the consequences could be dire. We had a few drinks, ate some chocolate, watched some Entourage and the movie Snatch, played Guitar Hero, and called it a night at 4:00am.

So there you go: nothing too glamorous or touristy, but a great day nonetheless. Now it's off to a lovely Sunday roast at the local pub. And it's SNOWING!!
